Injuries in Japanese university handball: a study among 1017 players

The aim of this study was to examine the injury profile Japanese university handball players. In cross-sectional study, a total 1017 participants who played in 2018 National University Handball Championship were followed. incidence within previous year 0.59 [95% CI, confidence interval: 0.56-0.62] per player year. ankle (33.3%), knee (23.6%), and shoulder/clavicle (12.6%) body regions most affected by traumatic mechanisms, while lumbar spine/lower back (26.0%), (15.7%), shoulder (15.0%) overuse mechanisms. Sprain (30.7%), ligamentous rupture (23.2%), fracture (11.8%) main types injuries, stress (25.0%) lesion meniscus or cartilage injuries. Female players 1.5 times more likely (OR, odds ratio: 1.55 CI: 1.20-2.01]) experience an than their male counterparts, line also (OR: 1.49 1.00-2.21]) wing counterparts.
